So which mortgage distribution channel is right for you? That depends on what kind of consumer you are. For some consumers, the oldest channel (the bank’s branch network) is where they go to do all their banking, including getting a mortgage. For them, this is the most convenient, and they probably have a good relationship with one of the branch representatives.Alternatively, some consumers are loyal to their bank but prefer to work with their bank when and where it suits the customer. For this consumer, the bank’s mobile representative is the preferred choice.
Finally, the consumer with less or no loyalty to any bank, prefers the independence of a mortgage broker to be sure they are getting the best offer in the marketplace.
All the mortgage originators registered here either voluntarily joined, or were submitted by the community in which they serve. It’s an open marketplace concept that MortgageResource.ca supports; an information environment that is open and free. It is up to you to decide which channel, and which individual advisor will represent you best, and using this website can help make the decision process easier.
The Challenge
We have challenged all mortgage originators to join, and work toward enhancing their credibility and professionalism; to impart the virtues of their service and help educate the consumer to make an informed decision. In turn, they will raise their profile on this website, and increase their chances of doing business with you.
We have set the bar high and any mortgage originator who reaches it is awarded MortgageResource.ca Certification. This badge of honour is our very own industry benchmark. It will be noted in the details of every mortgage originator’s profile, and every mortgage originator who achieves this standard of service and professionalism will be flagged in our directory with the following badge of honour:

MortgageResource.ca Certification
So how do mortgage originators obtain MortgageResource.ca Certification? The following outlines the conditions required:
Experience: Mortgage originators must have a minimum of 5 years in the mortgage industry to qualify. Although length of service is no guarantee of professional standards, we feel this is the minimum amount of time required for accumulating knowledge and a level of expertise.
Results: Productivity is an important metric for certification because it tells consumers that the individual is among the top in their class, that they champion best practices, they have successfully managed their book of business, and understand the importance of referral business.
Education: Mortgage originators must have completed some post secondary education. Either an undergraduate university degree or college diploma, or at the very least, completed an accredited or formal industry-wide educational program. We also believe in a commitment to continuing education as the mortgage industry also continues to evolve. A specific designation is not essential, but a professional should have some qualifications beyond just sales training and experience.
Ethics: Mortgage originators must have taken a course in ethics and subscribe to the standards of professional conduct adopted by their respective industry associations. Furthermore, they will use industry best practices to protect parties to a mortgage transaction and the public against fraud.
Information Technology: Mortgage originators must commit to providing consumer-relevant information on the www.MortgageResource.ca website. Information technology skills are vital in today’s technology driven marketplace. A minimum 20 blog and/or podcasts are required.
Commitment to Community: Mortgage originators must demonstrate a strong commitment to serving the communities they work and live in. We believe you are only as strong as the communities in which you do business.
